Blog Tour Day 1

Easel

Updates:

Maura Welch from the Boston Globe covers event
Notes from Ann Handley at Marketing Profs
Notes from the Digital Hive

A very quick re-cap of how the "Blog's Eye View" presentation went over in the Digitas Boston office:  Had a decent turnout and the audience seemed fairly engaged.  Lots of good questions at the end regarding what clients think about my blog (the ones I've talked to about it seem to like it) and also the benefits and pitfalls of social marketing.  Actually, Peter Kim from Forrester was there and has a nice writeup on the Forrester Marketing Blog.

Also in attendance was ClickZ founder, Marketing Profs MVP and Social Marketing Butterfly Ann Handley as well as the hard working journalist/blogger Maura Welch from the Boston Globe.  Here's a snapshot of us:

And a partial view of the audience...

Tomorrow is NY—two presentations and a meet and greet with a Wall Street Journal reporter.  I had a great time today.  Met some really nice people who seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say.  And best of all got to enjoy some solid east coast Pizza with Ann Handley—a great combination! :)  So, I'm up at the crack of pre-dawn tomorrow.  See you soon.

Once again, David. Congratulations for your tour. It's great to see the picture of you, Ann and Maura. Seems like internet and blogging is suddenly more real than ever. So, Best Regards from Europe! : )

David,
The tour looks great, but please tell me you aren't using "social marketing" to mean "social media marketing"! I'm on a mission to stamp out the new usage of the term to prevent confusion with the long-existing field of social marketing as used to address health and social issues. (see http://www.social-marketing.com/blog/2006/09/social-marketing-vs-social-marketing.html ) And now back to our regularly scheduled program...

Nedra, the term I probably should have used was emerging media. The presentation is focused around what I've learned through my own blog as well as the shift we are seeing with the empowered everyday Joe (or Jane).

For the record: David did an awesome job with his social marketing...err.... emerging media (!) presentation. Plus, how cool is that jacket he's wearing?

Okay, I'll let it go this time. :-) Hope New York goes well.

Envious here in Des Moines - pizza and time with Ann Handley!

Joyously following the emerging story of Blog Tour!

Keep creating...Mike
