iPhone iPhone iPhone

It's official.
See all the photos here
View an interactive demo here. (Interface details are amazing).
Guess what? I'm not going to buy it. NO PHYSICAL KEYBOARD. We'll, I'll try it out first before coming to any premature conclusions—but no matter how good the touch screen is, it's difficult to replace a solid QWERTY once you get used to one. I may be in the minority here because I'm spoiled by the large Sidekick keyboard.
Sorry Apple—it is beautiful though (be sure to check out the demo).
Ironically, the name iPhone is a seems a little archaic when you evaluate the functions. It's not really a phone as much as it is a digital lifestyle accessory.

step aside then David, because I want one, and I want it *now*

David, I'm with you on the digital lifestyle accessory definition.
BTW -- I was looking over Advertising Age Agency A-List and guess what? They're all guys. Last time I checked, the biggest spenders are all girls. Interesting...

Yeah I want one too, the interface is so very "minority report"-esque.
Or I guess I might have to make do with an N95
:-)

I think I've read something about the iPhone not being a suitable brand? not sure but I think it belonged to cisco or some of the like.
I don't like it either, looks like a vertical PSP

All I know is, I want one.

I do agree. I love physical qwerty keyboard of my Qtek 9100 and think touch screen just can't replace it.

one short step from handwriting recognition. you won't even miss a keyboard soon.

David, you're waaay off base on this one. I'm not ashamed of my device lust.
iPhone, girl, I will serve you coffee in my finest coffee mug, with the finest cloth napkin regionally available. If that napkin does not meet your exacting standards, I will find another cloth napkin with an even higher thread count.
Damn.
By the way, you're gonna be busy as a UI person making use of multi-touch. Two words for you: CHORDING KEYBOARD. Once you learn how to do steno on your iPhone, you'll be texting 90 words per minute.

OK, I admit I was being intentionally dramatic with my "I'm not buying" comment. Fact is, this is the criteria I would base a true decision on.
1. “feel” and sustainability of touch screen (will it get all nasty with fingerprints etc.?)
2. Usefulness and speed of virtual typepad (I love my current qwerty)
3. Pocket test
4. Cingular plan (I’m with T-mobile now)
It is an amazing piece of innovation. I’m remaining a bit skeptical because I was all jazzed about the Moto Q whn it first came out, but then disappointed once I played with it. So it all comes down to having it in my hands (and how I feel about taking the trouble to upgrade and switch to Cingular)

I have nothing more to base this on than anyone else, but I have a feeling that they've done it right, QWERTY or no. Cell phones have been moving this direction for a while. Everyone's carrying a cell phone, a pda, an ipod, a blackberry, whatever. There have been steps here and there toward bringing them all together.
Go figure it would be Apple who'd finally take the plunge. Frankly, I'm surprised it took anyone this long to combine everything.
And clearly its yet to be seen, but I've read about the "gestures" interface here and there and it seems like it could certainly be the next big thing.
Am I rushing out to buy one...nope. I have a verizon plan already. I have an ipod already. I don't have $500-600 to burn. And I'd imagine that the cingular plans that allow users to get the most out of the iPhone will cost a premium for a while.
But yeah...its damn cool.

I love it and I want it yesterday.
This will be my next purchase from Apple for sure. Except if someone else buys it before me and that the experience is disappointing.
Im looking forward to read comments from an owner!
