Day One 2.0

The first day at a new job is always an interesting case study on people and organizations.  And the way we share these experiences is changing.  For example, upon reviewing some of the internal resources at my new employer Critical Mass—I came upon this video of the Chicago office which was already uploaded to YouTube.  The video was produced by a Creative Director here in Chicago.  So now the way we talk about and share events such as our first days on the job has changed, evolved and becomes distributed content. PS, some good things happening here.  Stay tuned—more to come.

I love first days - first days of anything, so exciting, scary, so much to take in. I'm due one soon. Great fly through of the offices - loving the view outside... interesting mix of open plan and individual offices.

I wonder, are you and open plan kinda guy?

All the very best and good luck with the 2.0 David.

Alex, I am now :)

My "office" is a simple little cubby in the shape of a soft arrowhead. It's very open.

So no office and doors, but lots of opportunities to get up and stretch my legs.

Dave,
Thanks for sharing and congrats on the new job. It was nice meeting you at SOBCON.

Keep in touch buddy, I am interested in seeing what is next for you.

Rodney

Good luck, Dave!

Hey – since you’re a YouTuber, you might want to check this out… There’s a video company that’s recruiting
YouTubers and if they like your stuff, (and they should) they will actually pay you when your video gets a hit.
Here’s their link… www.flownetworkproductions.com/videorevenue.htm. It’s about time the people who make
the videos get some of the money instead of it all going to YouTube!

I always try to keep a low profile the first day, I would certainly not wield a camera and run around... but then again I am not an art director

Now see, if that video were made at BusinessWeek, we'd have a full camera crew and the background music would likely be classical, maybe a bit of Mozart.

Hope you had a good first day.

LOL.

Jessi, nice insight into the BusinessWeek culture. Maybe you can get some Radiohead mixed in with the Mozart at some point.

Stijn, the video wasn't taken on the first day. The Creative Director took it a while back for an internal project. Since I found it on YouTube, I plugged it in here.

Good luck, David and God speed.

Dawud, thanks for the well wishes.

The first day is interesting to be sure. It is the first Monday that really brings reality to the front row. With a new week people get back to old routines. We suddenly miss some of our old familiar Monday morning chatter.

David, embrace the new! Revel in the cherished past during the drive in and then put it away. You have a new set of chatmates to build on Monday.

Roger,

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I'll be thinking about this come Monday. Change is kind of scary, but to your point should be embraced.

Good stuff. Whats the song from the video?
