Slide of the Day

From A recent post I wrote on Experience Matters:
I’ve thought about this as well being someone who lives and breaths much of the evolution we see on the Web—there is a real opportunity to become “digital anthropologists“—to gleam insights into the minds of consumers via leveraging social technologies. However, these insights will never be obtained and traditional ROI is allowed to take out the potential before we have a chance to learn something from it, and organizations may have to experience a cultural evolution before things can change.

Hm, I've been toying with the notion of Return on Intent (are they purchasing or merely info-gathering?).

Brilliance caught in a single visual. "Insight" is so overlooked in what marketers consider when pondering "what's in it for us", which typically turns immediately to an ROI frame of thought. I look to the day our analytics tools catch up with us and look beyond simplistic monetary measurements to capture value or even better integrate the two into more thoughtful success metrics. There are so many opportunities and learnings to be found in your customers, capitalize on it to be more relevant marketers and ROI will fall out of it. Learning and evolving is key!
