Fresh start and I feel like getting back to basics. While some of us may have woken up with a slight hangover on New Years Day, I feel like I've got a nasty Social Media Hangover from 2008. So here's a potential remedy and I need your help. I'd like to put a list together of GREAT blogs that have almost NO mention of social media. Seriously, they should be nearly devoid of the topic in all forms. Just leave a comment with the url(s) and I will begin looking through them. My favorites will go into a shortlist that I'll publish and Tweet.
Two rules:
1. You can't submit your own blog
2. The content should be quality and appropriate for a business audience
What are your favorite non-social media blogs?

David -- Here are a two that I've found through my passion for photography.
Chase Jarvis: Awesome photographer and behind the scenes look at how he does it

Strobist: A great how to blog about all things lighting

I think Kevin Hillstrom's blog, Mine That Data, is fantastic; light on social media, heavy on real metrics.

I would have to say my favorite is Impreint Talk (www.imprinttalk.com). Talks alot about design, pop culture, Asian/creative culture in general.

http://joelonsoftware.com/ - Timeless blog about the business of software engineering by the legendary developer and business owner Joel Spolsky.
http://allthingsdistributed.com/ - blog of Amazon CTO Werner Vogels that gives amazing insight into the world of distributed computing from one of the brightest minds out there on the subject.
I can't get through a day without reading either one of these. Fantastic content!

I'll offer two, David.
The first is Eric Berger's, the "SciGuy" for the Houston Chronicle. He blogs about a lot of fascinating stuff, but he really shined before and during Hurricane Ike, drawing a huge readership. In fact, as the storm got closer, he started scheduling live chats on his blog, and THOUSANDS participated! His blog is here: http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/
I wrote about it in September, too:
http://www.mpdailyfix.com/2008/09/a_blog_that_blows_me_away.html
The other blog I tweeted you about is Michael Ruhlman's: http://blog.ruhlman.com/
He's an author of many books, mostly about chefs and cooking, and he has a lot of loyal readers who are quite active on his blog. Many "famous foodies" follow him, too, and it's fun when one of them leaves a comment.

http://www.booksonthenightstand.com for the bibliophile in all of us.
http://www.annhandley.com: Ann Handley's rocking awesome personal blog. The woman writes a memoir like nobody's business.
And how about a podcast? http://www.accidenthash.com is CC Chapman's killer music podcast that always introduces me to great artists I've never heard of.

David,
One "stand out" blog is by a cardiologist William Davis from the "evidence-based" school of medicine: http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/
Davis aims to transform doctor-patient relationships by empowering consumers with insights not influenced by big Pharma or other lobby groups. It's terrific resource for anyone interested in fact-based medicine -- not just cardio health.

With hundreds of blogs feeding my rss feed each day I have to skim over titles and first paragraphs quickly in order to not spend all day reading. Every now and again I am pleasantly surprised by a new post from Jim Brandenburg. His posts force me to slow down and take them in. His posts are magnificent photographs of nature. They are a great break from the fast paced web experience that I call normal. http://jimbrandenburg.blogspot.com/

Hi David
My post and Frank Patrick's both appear twice. In my case this was because of your spam filter delaying the first post for human intervention, me thinking I had mistyped the code world and entering it again, only to find out that it wasn't the problem. I am guessing Frank had the same problem.
Is there a problem with the anti-spam facility?
