David -- Here are a two that I've found through my passion for photography.

Chase Jarvis: Awesome photographer and behind the scenes look at how he does it
http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/

Strobist: A great how to blog about all things lighting
http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/

I think Kevin Hillstrom's blog, Mine That Data, is fantastic; light on social media, heavy on real metrics.

http://minethatdata.blogspot.com/

I would have to say my favorite is Impreint Talk (www.imprinttalk.com). Talks alot about design, pop culture, Asian/creative culture in general.

http://joelonsoftware.com/ - Timeless blog about the business of software engineering by the legendary developer and business owner Joel Spolsky.

http://allthingsdistributed.com/ - blog of Amazon CTO Werner Vogels that gives amazing insight into the world of distributed computing from one of the brightest minds out there on the subject.

I can't get through a day without reading either one of these. Fantastic content!

I'll offer two, David.

The first is Eric Berger's, the "SciGuy" for the Houston Chronicle. He blogs about a lot of fascinating stuff, but he really shined before and during Hurricane Ike, drawing a huge readership. In fact, as the storm got closer, he started scheduling live chats on his blog, and THOUSANDS participated! His blog is here: http://blogs.chron.com/sciguy/
I wrote about it in September, too:
http://www.mpdailyfix.com/2008/09/a_blog_that_blows_me_away.html

The other blog I tweeted you about is Michael Ruhlman's: http://blog.ruhlman.com/

He's an author of many books, mostly about chefs and cooking, and he has a lot of loyal readers who are quite active on his blog. Many "famous foodies" follow him, too, and it's fun when one of them leaves a comment.

http://www.booksonthenightstand.com for the bibliophile in all of us.

http://www.annhandley.com: Ann Handley's rocking awesome personal blog. The woman writes a memoir like nobody's business.

And how about a podcast? http://www.accidenthash.com is CC Chapman's killer music podcast that always introduces me to great artists I've never heard of.

David,

One "stand out" blog is by a cardiologist William Davis from the "evidence-based" school of medicine: http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/

Davis aims to transform doctor-patient relationships by empowering consumers with insights not influenced by big Pharma or other lobby groups. It's terrific resource for anyone interested in fact-based medicine -- not just cardio health.

With hundreds of blogs feeding my rss feed each day I have to skim over titles and first paragraphs quickly in order to not spend all day reading. Every now and again I am pleasantly surprised by a new post from Jim Brandenburg. His posts force me to slow down and take them in. His posts are magnificent photographs of nature. They are a great break from the fast paced web experience that I call normal. http://jimbrandenburg.blogspot.com/

Hi David

My post and Frank Patrick's both appear twice. In my case this was because of your spam filter delaying the first post for human intervention, me thinking I had mistyped the code world and entering it again, only to find out that it wasn't the problem. I am guessing Frank had the same problem.

Is there a problem with the anti-spam facility?

Graham Hill

http://maschmeyer.blogspot.com/ is fast becoming my favorite blog on transformation design.

I follow the World Dairy Diary at http://www.wdexpo.org/

Hope that helps.

Merlin Mann has abandoned GTD/productivity blogging and started writing about creativity at http://www.43folders.com -- and man, it's getting *good*!

Freakonomics. Agree or disagree with the conclusions, they always work with a methodology that pushes you to think differently about all situations. http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/

Other blogs that push for different thinking include:
http://www.doshdosh.com/
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/

And then there's always boingboing, for all the pop culture you can handle. http://boingboing.net/

I enjoy reading some of the 'mom' type blogs:
http://thepioneerwoman.com/
http://www.momversation.com/

I also enjoy http://ecogeek.org

strangemaps.wordpress.com

Hi David,

Great idea and post.

My favorite (that never really talks about social media but references it with some technology examples.

Kevin Kelly's central blog - KK Lifestream (the best place for all technology and future ideas):

http://kk.org/kk/

Love the posts. Hope you have a great 2009.

Blog I really like to read that is not social media, SEO, Web Dev etc is http://www.fragrantica.com/

Levite Chronicles levite.wordpress.com speaks loudly to me.

Five Thirty Eight
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/
Awesome political blog that focuses on numbers and stats behind the polls.

Jonah Lehrer
http://scienceblogs.com/cortex/
You're probably already reading him, but he's the brilliant guy that wrote the article on where insights come from in the New Yorker.

Grant McCracken
http://www.cultureby.com/trilogy/
"the intersection of anthropology and economics"

Urban Prankster
http://urbanprankster.com/
From the guy who started improv everywhere.

Bob Leftsetz on the music industry. Entertaining and insightful.

http://lefsetz.com/wordpress/

Without a doubt it is Brains on Fire's company blog. They're a word of mouth agency in South Carolina. Not only are their blogs extremely insightful they are well written. Additionally, you get a great glimpse of their culture everytime.
http://brainsonfire.com/blog/index.php

www.kottke.org - Great blog of randomness.

GigaOm
Endgadget
Gizmodo

Two of my favorites are:

The Marketing Twins Blog
http://blog.1429design.com/ and the

and

Tornado Marketing's
http://tornadomktg.com/blog/

Good small business blogs that are simple, concise and to the point.

I'll put a word in for alltop.com. I like it because it aggregates the information. And I can briefly check out the most recent posts via a pop up window.
http://alltop.com/

I hope that you share the final compiled list.
Thanks.

Workplace - All Things Workplace
