One of the early visuals I did here is this one pictured above. As I think about recent events, the idea of "community clusters" is crystallizing for me. I originally thought of them as "tightly knit" communuties like the ones you'd see on Yahoo! in the old days or like the ones you see developing on Ning (see Triiibes). But I'm wondering if the ambient intimacy of less "tightnly knit" communities like the ones that can revolve around our (insert your network here), qualify as well.
Either way, I think we all know that there are connections. Networks don't live on islands, they often times intersect and intertwine. And often times people from diferrent "neighborhoods" come over to visit, stay a while and even move (permantly). The collective is an interesting place. Like, Manhatten. You can feel as if you're never alone and very much alone at the same time. An interesting dichotomy.
