But we treat it like it is and that's the problem. Sometimes it's right under out noses—it's just that someone never thought of doing that before until "it" got done. And the first person, or organization who got it done implemented the innovation. So they set the agenda for others to follow. A peanut butter and chocolate cup is innovative—why didn't someone think of that idea sooner? In retrospect, the two tastes should have always gone together, the minute they themselves were invented and put into production.
Don't over estimate your potential to innovate. It's usually right in front of your eyes. But few people stop to realize how innovative a simple idea can be, and even fewer people accelerate to put the simple idea into action. Innovation requires follow through and lots of it.
The next time you find yourself asking the question "why hasn't somebody thought of this before"? It's likely that they have. But they probably thought past the original idea and never brought it to life. That's your chance to innovate, and I recommend that you take it.
